Raw Materials Responsible Sourcing Policy

Environment

CREATED
29 Oct 2021

Raw materials are defined as those materials or substances used in the primary production or manufacturing of goods. They may be naturally occurring substances like minerals, metals, wood, rubber.

It is increasingly important that sourcing of natural raw materials need be made sustainable making their procurement in such a way that it is non-exploitative of people and the environment. This is vital to build strong, mutually understanding relationships throughout the supply chain process.

A Raw Materials Responsible Sourcing Policy summarises a company's action to ensure the sustainable supply of raw materials, stating the processes and expectations while procuring them. This would aid in avoiding raw materials from conflict-affected and high-risk areas as well as the uncertified practice of extractions. It would also help in improving the social, environmental and any other ethical issues likely to occur. The policy needs to reflect the CSR implementation issues, work environment, corporate behaviour, and others, promoting engagement and standardised communication among the stakeholders.

This policy document needs to draw up and made applicable to the products, suppliers, and sub-contractors’ usage of raw materials of a company and needs to ensure that the material-specific requirements and specifications need to be updated promptly.

Raw material sourcing and supply chain process is distinct and complex - businesses need to promote stronger partnerships, customer relationships, and innovative solutions that could best promote sustainable solutions for the business.
